Pickup truck crashes in Johnston Co., catches fire under bridge over I-40

A driver sustained minor injuries after his pickup truck crashed early Saturday morning on Interstate 40 in Johnston County.

Authorities responded to the wreck around 4:45 a.m. after the truck struck a guard rail at mile marker 334 near the Meadow community. The vehicle came to rest under a bridge and caught fire, officials said.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation is inspecting the bridge for damage from the fire.
