Woman explains photos of 'crazy-cool predators'

Ginger Gilmer’s photos of sharks swimming close to people on North Myrtle Beach was shared 32,000 times in six days.

“I was astonished,” she said. “It was an awesome sight – they are crazy cool predators.”

But she also said she was shocked.

“I knew there were sharks there,” she said. “I guess how close they are to people that was the shock.”

Gilmer said she respects the ocean and knows it’s where sharks live.

She said her goal was to show how close the sharks were to the people.

“I was making a point that I didn't realize they get as close to the shallow water as they get,” she said.

But not everyone in the comment section took Gilmer's post that way.

“They said the post I posted hurt tourism for the beach communities and beach towns,” she said.

She said she’s not discouraged, though.

“I love the Gulf. I love Myrtle,” she said.
