52-year-old man struck, killed by freight train in Smithfield

A man was struck and killed by a train in Johnston County early Thursday.

According to officials, 52-year-old Randy Hall was struck by a CSX freight train around 12:15 a.m. at Market Street and S. Ninth Street near downtown Smithfield.

An investigation remains open, but officials do not suspect foul play.
