Person mother warns parents after finding needle in Halloween candy

A Person County woman said she found a needle in her child's Halloween candy after her daughter bit into a Snickers bar and pierced the roof of her mouth.

Misty Brogden said she and her daughter had been trick-or-treating in the Huck Sansbury Park area of Roxboro Saturday night.

She inspected her children’s candy, but said she missed a Snickers bar with a tiny hole in the wrapper and a needle inside. She posted her story to social media in an effort to warn other parents.

"Anytime that somebody's potentially going to hurt a child, it is just as serious as it gets in my opinion," said Chief Deputy Al Rheu with the Person County Sheriff's Office. "At this point, we are not sure if this is just an isolated incident or this is something widespread."

According to police, this is the only incident they have heard of this Halloween.

The investigation is ongoing.
