Passenger in FedEx truck killed in Halifax County wreck

A passenger in a FedEx truck was killed early Wednesday when the truck lost control on Interstate 95 North in Halifax County and hit a tree, state Highway Patrol officials said. 

According to investigators, the truck's right front tire blew at about 6:30 a.m., causing the truck to swerve off the road near mile marker 166 in Roanoke Rapids. 

The name of the passenger has not been released, and troopers weren't sure where the person was sitting in the truck. 

The truck's driver was taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

State Department of Transportation officials closed the right lane of I-95 North due to the wreck. Drivers should expect delays in the area until at least noon. 

No other information about the wreck was immediately available.
