Parents revisit site of son's hit and run in search of answers

On the two-year anniversary of Dwight Smith's hit-and-run death, his family and Raleigh police officers gathered Monday night on Pettigrew Street again to ask for help from the community to solve the crime.

A group of mourners offered up prayers and asked for the practical – tips to help catch the driver that ran down Smith at the age of 26. They passed out fliers as people passed by, hoping to job someone's memory.

"We got a call saying that he was hit by a car, and, you know, he was dead," Smith's father, Dwight Smith Sr., said.

"We don't know who did it and that's what hurts the most," he said. "We just want someone to come forward and confess they did this."

Smith's parents say they will never stop trying to get answers about their son's death. They vowed to return to the same spot each year until the person responsible is found.
