Overnight construction lingers into Friday morning commute, causes serious delays on I-40 West in Garner

Overnight construction was causing serious delays Friday morning on Interstate 40 West in Garner.

At one point, sensors were indicating an hour-long delay right around the NC Hig42 interchange. Backups began at the Clayton bypass and continued all the way up to the Business 70 interchange.

Overnight construction was supposed to be cleared by 6 a.m. but ended up lingering into the morning commute. WRAL's Brian Shrader said at 7:20 a.m. that the construction and traffic have cleared up.

Detour: If you're heading west from Johnston County, take NC Highway 50 up to the Business 70 interchange. Then from there, take Hammond Road or South Saunders Street to get back onto I-40 West on the other side of those delays.
