Man's cross-country journey raises money for rape crisis center

An Orange County man is crossing the country to raise money for the Orange County Rape Crisis Center.

Julian Jacobs plans to cross the country in 21 days with just a penny in his pocket.

As he travels, he plans to work jobs to turn that penny into funds to help raise money for the center and speak to communities on the impact of sexual violence.

‘A lot of people who are victims of human trafficking, and they have a lot of people they can’t help now,” Jacobs said.

Budget cuts forced the Orange County Rape Crisis Center to scale back on some services.

Over the last four years, government contracts have decreased by $400,000, and starting in October, the nonprofit will cut 50% of its staff.

“I just wanted to help out with a great organization,” Jacobs said. “My friend, Ray, works at the Orange County Rape Crisis Center. She told me about the cuts [and] I thought this would be a great way to raise money.”

Jacobs plans to document his journey from North Carolina to California on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. He hopes that those following his journey take away one message.

I hope they take away that people are all the same,” Jacobs explained. “Some don’t have the same luxury others have. We need to donate to even the playing field and have a different life.”
