Opening day of NC State Fair often a family affair
Opening day of the North Carolina State Fair is often a family affair, even for those visiting from outside the state.
The Mahavik family brought their family members from New York to visit the fair this year.
"There's family in town, and they've never been to the state fair, so I wanted to show them a good time," Lindsay Mahavik said.
A first-day attraction this year was a $28 ride wristband that gave visitors unlimited access to slides, scares and roller coasters until the gate closes Thursday night.
"We love that it's less crowds and we love to eat all the food and see all the entertainment, and the kids like the rides," said Kristi Woodard
Admission, which is usually $10 for adults and $5 for ages 6 to 12, were discounted for Thursday's preview. Adults can purchase a ticket for $8 and children are just $3. Those 65 and older and kids 5 and younger are always free.
The state fair is scheduled to open at 8 a.m. on Friday.
