One-year-old dies after found unresponsive in Fayetteville apartment

Police investigating death of one-year-old

Sunday after 7 a.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to an unresponsive one-year-old child.

First responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the one-year-old child was ultimately pronounced dead.

One woman at the complex attempted to provide CPR to the child after the mother asked for help.

"Instantly walking into the room, knowing and seeing how uncomfortable her body was, you could just ,as a mother you just know those things," said the woman, who wished to remain anonymous. "You know when something's wrong. I got that feeling and you're just trying to do what you can do."

The cause of the child's death is unknown at this time and will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Police said this is an isolated incident, and there were no other children in the home.

The child's death is being investigated as a homicide.
