One person injured after horse barn leveled in Pitt County fire

One person was injured Thursday after a fire leveled a horse barn in northern Pitt County.

The call came in shortly before 3 p.m. to a home on Sheppard Mill Road outside of Stokes.

WITN reports only a few support beams remain standing of the barn, which is about 50 feet from the house.

There was an explosion, but right now firefighters are not sure if that explosion caused the fire or if it happened as a result of the fire.

It’s not known if there were any animals inside the barn.

One person was taken to ECU Health Medical Center with burn injuries.
