Police searching for man wanted for murder in Smithfield

A Selma man wanted for first-degree murder has turned himself in to police.

Markyse Naijae McCain surrendered to the Smithfield Police Department on Monday night.

The development comes a week after one person was killed in a shooting at Johnson Court Apartments in Smithfield.

McCain, 20, was booked into the Johnston County Jail without incident and held without bond on a charge of first-degree murder.

At 4:55 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, the Smithfield Police Department responded to a disturbance at an apartment on Kay Drive. Investigators said an altercation inside the residence led to the death of one person. Police said the fight was over a misplaced cell phone.

Antwane Deshawn Fellows, 30, of Clayton died in the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.
