One person dead after tractor trailer collides with car in Nash County

One person is dead after a car collided with a tractor trailer Sunday afternoon in Nash County.

According to witnesses, the accident happened near mile marker 127 on I-95 around 2:30 p.m.

Witnesses said the tractor trailer caught fire after the collision. Authorities do not know which vehicle started the fire.

Authorities confirmed the driver of the tractor trailer died at the scene. The woman who was driving the other car was taken to the hospital with a broken ankle.

Witnesses told authorities the tractor trailer was in the right lane when it suddenly veered left into the car, taking both off the road before slamming into a line of trees.

Smoke from the accident could be seen on traffic cameras.

I-95 was reopened around 10 p.m. after being partially closed in both directions at 3 p.m. as crews worked to extinguish the remnants of the fire.
