A man found with a gunshot wound became a person of interest late Friday in the shooting death of a Harnett County man, investigators said.

Deputies found the deceased man at about 2:15 p.m. at a mobile home at 95 Windsong Drive, near N.C. Highway 24/27 in Cameron.

While deputies and a state Highway Patrol helicopter searched the area for the shooter, another shooting victim was discovered in nearby woods. That person was later identified as 23-year old Lamante Brower of Cameron, Sheriff Larry Rollins said.

After talking with witnesses who were at the residence at the time of the home invasion, Brower became a person of interest in the fatal shooting at the mobile home, investigators said.

Investigators are still trying to determine what led to the shooting, but a witness told WRAL News that a man came to the Windsong Drive home with a weapon and demanded money. An altercation broke out and guns were fired.

The incident had neighbors in the area on edge, but Rollins said they shouldn't worry.

"We are pretty satisfied there is nothing in the area that is a threat to the community," the sheriff said.

Brower was being treated at Cape Fear Valley Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. He had not been charged late Friday in connection with the incident.

Investigators have not released more details, including the identity of the man who was killed.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office at 910-893-9111.
