On first day of classes, Harnett County Schools extends online learning for several more weeks

While students were logging in to their online classes, the Harnett County Schools' Board of Education members were meeting to modify the district's plans for in-person learning.

Harnett County Schools planned to reopen under a hybrid model. Kindergarten through 8th grade students were going to begin entering the classroom on Aug. 24.

That changed after Monday morning's meeting. The district won't begin to bring students back into the classroom until at least Sept. 28. High school students are expected to come back even later than that.

Harnett County Schools is giving students the option to enroll in online classes for the rest of the year or continue with the district's plan for in-person classes when they do start.

Currently, Wake County Public School students, who are also in a "modified Plan B" schedule, will be coming back to the classroom sometime after October 22.
