On cam: Videos show person who broke into five Cary businesses overnight
Cary Police are investigating a string of break-ins targeting local restaurants in town, and they hope surveillance footage from multiple restaurants could be the key to catching the person responsible.
Five businesses were hit along a 5-mile span of Kildaire Farm Road or right nearby over the weekend – and another business in Raleigh was also impacted.
- Gonza Tacos Y Tequila: 525 Waverly Place
- Cary Pub: 6454 Tryon Road
- Totopos: 1388 Kildaire Farm Road
- Brothers of NY Pizza: 3450 Kildaire Farm Road
- Frida's Patio
Cary Police believe it is the same person or people who hit all of the businesses.
Totopos and Brothers of NY Pizza both had cash taken from the register, according to Cary police.
Security camera video from Brothers of NY Pizza shows a person dressed in black, breaking in and going right for the cash, even working to pry open a cash register with a crow bar.
Footage from Frida's Patio shows a burglar with a crowbar break in and walk out with the cash register under their arm. Video from Totopos shows the thief creep carefully through the shattered glass window in the door.
"He went right to where the money was," said Totopos General Manager Maria Bravo. "It's definitely really scary because you feel totally exposed."
Around 3 a.m., the suspect(s) threw a rock through the front door of Gonza Tacos y Tequila and bypassed the register to break into the office. However, the suspect(s) did not gain entry to the safe, and nothing was taken.
"Mostly, it was just a headache or something that was really frustrating for us more than it was something that hit us really financially hard," said Allison Cousins, general manager at the Cary location of Gonza Tacos y Tequila.
Another break-in happened at the Cary Pub off Tryon Road, where the suspect(s) threw a rock at the door but was not able to enter. A small crack remains, but the suspect(s) did not gain entry or take anything.
Second time in a few months four Cary businesses targeted by overnight break-ins
This is the second time in just a few months that a similar pattern has occurred.
Just as five Cary businesses were targeted overnight down Kildaire Farm Road this weekend, back in September four Cary businesses were targeted overnight down Cary Parkway.
At that time, the four businesses hit were:
- Chinese #1
- Subway
- Bliss gas station
- SweeTea Boba
Police have not said whether these two strings of break-ins are connected.
