Officials confirm first US case of person-to-person coronavirus spread, raise travel alert to level 4
Health officials have reported the first US case of person-to-person spread of the virus in Chicago.
Overnight Thursday, the US State Department elevated its travel warning to a Level 4, officially asking Americans not to travel to China.
The World Health Organization has declared coronavirus a public health emergency, with China reporting at least 43 new deaths in the past day, bringing the total to 213.
There are now more than 9,700 cases worldwide -- meaning 2,000 additional cases were confirmed since yesterday morning.
Kenya Airways is joining a long list of airlines, including American and Delta, suspending or canceling flights to China.
More than 200 Americans who returned to the US this week are at a California military base, having been quarantined for days.
Safety measures are also being put in place at some major airports, which are doing additional screening; however RDU said they have not added extra screening measures because they don't have a direct flight to China.
