The N.C. Museum of History in downtown Raleigh always has programs for kids each month. Here's what's happening in September:

  • Time for Tots: Aw, Nuts! is 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 6 or Sept. 13. It's for kids ages 3 to 5 with an adult. The fee is $1. Learn about the “gooberlicious” history of peanuts, and then make a “nutty” craft to take home.
  • History Corner: Nature’s Craft Store is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 7 for kids ages 6 to 9 with an adult. The fee is $1. American Indians have been making crafts using natural resources for thousands of years. See traditional crafts and make a craft to take home.
  • History Hunters: School Days is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Sept. 7 for ages 10 to 13. The fee is $1. What was school for in the 1800s? Who went to school? What did students learn? Find out what school was like in the past.

Call 919-807-7992 to register for any of these programs.

The museum also will have a free Make It, Take It program from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 10. You can drop in to learn a bit about baskets and weave a simple example of your own.
