Northwest Guilford alum Liz Kitley selected in WNBA Draft
One of the greatest girls basketball players to don a Northwest Guilford High School and Virginia Tech jersey is Vegas bound.
Liz Kitley, a two-time NCHSAA 4A state champion for the Vikings was selected by the Las Vegas Aces with the 24th overall pick in Monday night’s WNBA Draft.
Despite missing most of her senior year of high school due to injury, Kitley was able to rack up over 1,000 career points scored and was named a McDonald’s All-American.
She led Northwest Guilford to the 2017 and 2018 state championship with wins of 36-34 and 44-36 against Southeast Raleigh.
Her collegiate career was one of the most decorated in the history of ACC women’s basketball.
Starring at Virginia Tech alongside her high school teammate Cayla King, Kitley became a three-time ACC Player of the Year.
She holds the Hokies’ program records for games, minutes, points, double-doubles, field goals, field goal percentage, and blocks. Her 1,506 career rebounds was not only a Virginia Tech record but an ACC record.
The Athletic and The Sporting News named her a First Team All-American. She was also a finalist for the Wade Trophy and Lisa Leslie Award.
In 2022-23, she helped carry the Hokies to an appearance in the Final Four.
She joins the Aces in the midst of her recovery process from a season-ending injury suffered in one of the Hokies’ final regular season games at UVA.
Last week, Virginia Tech announced that it will be retiring Kitley’s number 33 jersey.
