Northern Durham High School has hired Jason Trousdale as its next head football coach. He was approved by the Durham Public Schools board on Thursday night.

Trousdale is taking over for R.J. Wilson, who was given two years as the Knights' head coach. Northern Durham posted consecutive 2-8 overall records under Wilson.

In November, Trousdale stepped down from his previous position as the head coach at Union Pines High School in Carthage. The Vikings went 7-23 under Trousdale. Going back to his time as a head coach in New York, Troudale has a 33-33 career coaching record. He was 26-10 in New York and his teams made the postseason all four years.

Northern Durham has won one N.C. High School Athletic Association state championship and finished as a state runner-up once as well. Northern defeated West Charlotte by a score of 39-6 in the 1993 4A title and lost to East Forsyth by a touchdown in the prior 4A championship. In addition to its two regional final victories, Northern has appeared in the regional round on three other occasions.

The Knights are a 4A program that compete in the DC 6 Conference with Chapel Hill, East Chapel Hill, Hillside, Jordan, and Riverside.
