North Wake Landfill to close Thursday

Wake County officials have planned a brief ceremony Thursday morning, when the last truckload of trash will be dumped at the North Wake Landfill.

The landfill will be closed and replaced by the controversial South Wake Landfill in Holly Springs, which opened in February after years of stiff opposition from town residents and officials.

County officials plan to provide hiking trails, athletic fields and other recreational opportunities on the closed landfill.
