North Carolina state trooper dies while battling COVID-19

A North Carolina State Trooper who had been battling COVID-19 in the ICU for over a month died on Monday.

As of Sunday, Trooper Brent Montgomery has been in the ICU for 10 days. He is on life support and on a ventilator.

A North Carolina state trooper, who had been battling COVID-19 in the ICU for over a month, died on Monday.

Trooper Brent Montgomery was on life support and on a ventilator.

Montgomery tested positive for the virus on Feb. 1. Family members said he pushed through it for several days until his oxygen levels dropped and he went to the hospital.

"Brent was a true warrior, who fought a courageous battle against COVID-19 with the love and support of his wife, Heather, and their three children," the North Carolina State Highway Patrol posted on its Facebook page.

Funeral arrangements for Montgomery are pending.
