No. 24 Southern Nash fends off Roanoke Rapids behind Dickinson's 17 strikeouts

STANHOPE, N.C. — A whopping 17 strikeouts by junior pitcher Anna Dickinson helped No. 24 Southern Nash take down its top competition and stay atop the Big East Conference.

The Firebirds defeated visiting Roanoke Rapids 2-0 in Tuesday softball action to complete a season sweep.

They are the only losses suffered by Roanoke Rapids (7-2, 4-2) this season.

Southern Nash (12-0, 7-0) pushed one across in the first inning as junior Carlee Beckham drove in Dickinson.

Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Beckham doubled the lead with a solo homer.

Roanoke Rapids pitcher Kalissa Williams struck out six batters and allowed just four hits in the loss.

Dickinson gave up just two hits and three walks in the shutout. Her ERA dropped to 0.16 for the season.
