Car slams into limo stopped on I-40 East

Nine people were taken to WakeMed early Sunday after a car ran into the back of a limousine that had stopped in the right lane of Interstate 40 East near Jones Sausage Road, state Highway Patrol officials said. 

Troopers said the limousine, which had eight passengers, stopped because of a flat tire about 3 a.m. It was hit shortly after by a Honda Accord driven by 19-year-old Nathan Graham, of Garner. 

Eight passengers and the limousine driver, 51-year-old David Allen Brown, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Brown was charged with making an unauthorized stop. 

Graham, who was not injured, was charged with provisional DWI. 

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, troopers said.
