The Lee County Board of Education will consider cutting more than 50 positions during a meeting Tuesday evening.

Superintendent Jeff Moss said he would recommend that the board make the cuts in order to balance the budget. Moss's plan would eliminate 49 teaching assistants and four support positions. He also proposed that about two dozen teaching positions, which are open due to attrition or retirements, go unfilled.

The meeting was scheduled for 5 p.m.
