Durham police arrested an off-duty North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper on Friday and charged him with DWI.

Trooper John C. Fogg's blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit at .17, according to highway patrol spokesman Capt. Everett Clendenin.

Durham officers arrested Fogg, 40, who was driving his personal vehicle at the time of the crash, which involved another vehicle. Details about the other vehicle were not released.

Fogg cooperated with officers, police said.

Highway Patrol Col. Walter Wilson Jr. ordered an internal investigation into the matter and ordered Fogg relieved of his duties as a state trooper pending the outcome of the internal investigation.

Fogg is assigned to Wilson County and was sworn in as a trooper in August 2007.
