Soldier charged in murder-for-hire plot

A Fort Bragg soldier charged with choking his estranged wife is accused of plotting to finish her off from his jail cell.

Kyle Nye Davis, 22, is charged with two counts of solicitation of first-degree murder, as well as two counts of second-degree kidnapping and one count each of first-degree burglary, assault by strangulation, breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was being held Thursday in the Hoke County Jail under a $500,000 bond.

Davis is a member of the 54th Field Support Command at Fort Bragg.

Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said Davis broke into his estranged wife's home twice last month and choked, beat and dragged her. She was able to dial 911 on a cell phone during one incident, and deputies went to her house and stopped the assault, Peterkin said.

The woman had a restraining order against Davis, the sheriff said.

A few days later, Davis asked another inmate to kill his wife and a 4-year-old boy, Peterkin said.

"The plan was to kill her and the child both, if the child was at home," he said. "It was very detailed."

Peterkin said the plot included information on how to get into the house, such as the best time of day to get in and which door to use, and how and where to dispose of the bodies.

"This shows that our suspect is still very angry," he said.

Deputies are working to ensure the safety of the woman and boy, he said, adding that he hopes the case will convince other victims of domestic violence to seek help before it's too late.
