Gas prices dip below $3 nationally

For the first time in eight months, the national average for a gallon of regular gas has dropped below $3, according to AAA.

On Sunday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $2.95 – a significant drop from last month’s average of $3.80 per gallon.

Some stations in the Triangle are already selling gas below $3 a gallon, but the state’s average is still $3.12. A month ago, the average for the state was nearly $4.

In September, the state saw its highest recorded average price at $4 per gallon.

North Carolina has one of the highest fuel costs in the nation, partly because of the state's gasoline supply comes from one pipeline that serves at least eight other states.
