With temperatures forecast to hit the triple digits, school officials dismissed classes at Wakefield Middle School at 10:45 a.m. Friday so repair crews could continue to work on the school's cooling system.

Wake County Public School System officials said in a news release the system has not been working at capacity for several days.

Maintenance staff expect it to be repaired and working by Monday, a news release stated. The school year ends Tuesday.

Parents were notified by the school system's telephone messenger system and buses were provided to transport bus riders. School staff were staying with students until they all had a way home.

Wakefield, in North Raleigh, has about 1,200 students and operates on the traditional calendar.
