Private Service Held for Fallen Guardsman

A private funeral service with full military honors was held Saturday afternoon for a North Carolina National Guardsman killed in Iraq.

The service for 25-year-old Sgt. Lance Eakes was held at the Olive Chapel Cemetery in Apex.

Eakes, a 2001 graduate of Apex High School, died April 18 in an explosion in Baghdad. Earlier this week, Eakes was posthumously promoted from specialist to sergeant.
