A drive-by shooting in Clinton that left a man injured might have been sparked by a dispute over a girl.

A white, four-door Kia vehicle pulled up to the More Cut Barbershop on Still and Lisbon streets at about 4 p.m. Saturday. Four people inside the vehicle started firing guns, police said.

A bullet struck Marcus London in the head, officers said.

The shooters “hung outside the door, across the vehicle, and fired at the business. That’s what we're being told at this point,” Clinton Police Chief Mike Brim said. “The barber who was shot, was sitting in the barber chair, the center barber chair in the shop.”

Other shots were fired at the barbershop, but no one else was injured.

“Marcus, he's a regular customer and he is very good kid. No problem, you know,” shooting witness Ahmed Mohamad said.

London, 23, was transported to UNC Hospitals, where police said he was listed in critical condition Sunday night.

Police said they want to question four people: Terry Oates, 22; Deangelo Jacobs, 18; Donte Singleton, 18; and Michael Wright, 20. Officers said they are not considered suspects.

“We'll continue to look for these four individuals who are wanted for questioning at this point,” Brim said.

The shooting might have been motivated by a dispute over a girl, according to the police report. Another shooting witness told police he was dating an ex-girlfriend of Michael Wright and that he could have been the target.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of the four people wanted for questioning or the location of the vehicle, they are asked to call Clinton police at 910-592-1961.
