Victim of Rocky Mount church stabbing returns home

Family members said on Thursday that the survivor of a stabbing at a church in Rocky Mount has returned home.

Eve Beasley, 60, and her longtime friend, Debbie Kornegay, each were stabbedby multiple times inside the kitchen at Lakeside Baptist Church on Oct. 18. Kornegay died of her wounds.

Beasley spent seven weeks recovering at Pitt Memorial Hospital from 10 stab wounds. She will continue out-patient physcial therapy, family members said.

Relatives said that in the hospital, Beasley roused herself enough to describe her attacker and ask a church secretary to call her children to tell them she loved them.

Beasley's children – Billy Beasley of Fuquay-Varina, Macon Fritsch of Knoxville, Tenn., and Amanda Beasley of Raleigh – temporarily moved to Greenville to stay at their mother's side while she was in the hospital.

A drifter, Tommy Lee Holiday, 30, confessed to attacking Beasley and Kornegay, police said. Prosecutors said they plan to seek the death penalty for charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery.

Both women worked for Meals on Wheels and were preparing food for delivery when the attacks occurred.
