Durham Police Arrest Teen in Double Shooting

Durham police arrested a 16-year-old male and charged him with shooting two men during an argument early Sunday at the Bull City Elks Lodge, 2311 South Alston Ave.

Carlton Antonio Goodman, of Dadeville, Ala., was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault inflicting serious injury and carrying a firearm into an establishment where alcohol is served.

He was placed in Durham County Jail under a $100,000 bond, authorities said.

The shooting happened shortly before 1 a.m. when an argument broke out on the dance floor during a birthday party at the club. A shoving match ensued and several shots were fired, police said.

Michael Spain, 35, of Macon Street was shot in the chest and sustained serious injuries.

Saleem Spain, 21, of Sater Street was shot in the left ankle and right calf. Both men were taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment.

Durham Police Sgt. A.R. Marsh, who was working off duty at the Elks Lodge, apprehended Goodman shortly after the shooting occurred. Durham Police K-9 Officer Moses Irving and his police dog located a gun believed to have been used in the shooting, officials said.
