4th Suspect Arrested in Vass Girl's Death

A fourth suspect was charged in the death of a 12-year-old Moore County girl who was found dead in her home last Friday.

Perry Ross Schiro, 19, of 174 Independence Way in Cameron, was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of breaking and entering in connection with the death of Emily Elizabeth Haddock.

Authorities said Haddock was at home sick Friday when someone broke into her Marks Road home outside Vass and shot her several times with a .22-caliber handgun. Investigators said the intruders intended to burglarize the house, but were surprised to find Haddock at home.

Moore County Sheriff Lane Carter said in a news release that Shiro was arrested in Harnett County earlier this week and charged with several violations related to a gun found in his vehicle.

Shiro was being held without bond Thursday in the Moore County Detention Center.

Sherrod Nicholas Harrison, 19, Michael Graham Currie, 18, and Van Roger Smith Jr., 16, all of Cameron, were arrested earlier this week in connection with Haddock's death. They also face first-degree murder charges.

They were assigned attorneys in a brief court appearance Tuesday. They remain in the Moore County Detention Center without bond, pending an Oct. 15 hearing.

Security has remained tight around the trio since their arrests Monday night. Rumors spread Tuesday of threats against them, but authorities declined to say whether they had evidence of a specific threat.
