Authorities in Durham County are urging people to stay away from Staggsville Road, where a man with a high-powered rifle fired at a friend.

No one has been injured, and authorities say residents in nearby houses were being evacuated.

Authorities have identified the man in the standoff as Danny Green, 37. They are considering the situation extremely dangerous because the weapon Green is believed to have is a .30-caliber rifle with a scope, which can be used for deer hunting.

At noon, officers had fired tear gas into a tobacco barn. It was unclear whether Green was in the barn at the time. Some 30 officer have set up a perimeter, but they are not sure of Green's exact location.

Authorities said the incident began Wednesday morning when Green fired at a friend, Eddie Murphy, after Murphy told Green to get his life in order. Authorities said Green had been charged recently with driving while impaired at the beach. He failed to appear in court on that charge.
