Lynn Frye is getting a jump on the holiday season by hunting for the perfect tree. Frye says she wants to get ahead of rush. Shipments of Christmas trees are making their way from the mountains to the markets, all before Thanksgiving.

Linwood Johnson says wet weather last December and cool temperatures practically guaranteed a good growing season. And whether you're looking for a frasier fir or blue spruce, buying early increases your chances of finding just the right tree.

Once you've found the perfect tree, there are a few things you can do to make sure it's fresh, like bending the branches to make sure they don't break and making sure none of the needles fall off.

If you buy a tree this early, make sure the stump is cut off and the tree is placed in a bucket of water. Then you'll be ready to trim a healthy, aromatic tree just in time for the holidays.
