Binge drinking can be, and often is, deadly. That's why the University of North Carolina is trying a first-of-its-kind approach to get rid of the culture that supports alcohol abuse.

UNC will is joining with Cornell University and the Center for Science in the Public Interest to create a nationwide campaign against binge drinking on college campuses. Organizers will produce a package of print and radio ads that try to get the message across on the dangers of heavy drinking.

UNC Chancellor Michael Hooker says students never believe the worst could happen to them.

Hooker says he'd like to have the anti-binge drinking campaign in place by August of next year.
