There was an apparent racist prank on the Duke campus Wednesday. A black doll was found hanging from a West Campus tree, with a note saying, "Duke has not changed."

No one has claimed responsibility for the incident, but the university is investigating it as a hate crime.

The prank came on the same day as a sit-in by students protesting the way they say blacks are treated at the school. Protesters say demands remain unmet since the issue was first brought up 30 years ago.

A meeting with Duke's president, they say, has left them optimistic.

LeRhonda Manigault, of the Black Student Alliance, says the meeting was positive.

Among the students' demands are the recruitment of more black faculty, a full time director at Duke's black culture center, and a black dormitory on campus.
