Fair organizers have finished weighing the yield of Wednesday's canned food drive, and the results are record breaking. Two-hundred-twenty-six thousand pounds of food was collected at the fifth annual Winn Dixie Day.

That number breaks the record set back in 1994 by one thousand pounds. All of the canned goods will be donated to the Food Bank of North Carolina.

"We appreciate the wonderful generosity of the community," says Ash Pipken, president of the food bank board. "It shows the homeless and hungry are not forgotten."

In five years, the canned food drive has collected more than one million pounds to help feed North Carolina's hungry.
