A Johnston County couple woke up Tuesday morning to find one of their horses seriously wounded by a gun shot. A veterinarian had treated the injury, but the horse's condition is still serious.

Now, the owners and the Johnston County Sheriff want to know who pulled the trigger. It happened between Clayton and Garner near the Wake and Johnston County line. Apparently, no one even heard the shot.

Rocky and Michelle Creech left their horses out in pasture overnight. It wasn't until she went out to feed them Tuesday morning that Michelle noticed a problem.

Their best show horse was shot. A local vet patched up the wound, pronouncing the animal's condition as "day-to-day".

Some have suggested that it was a hunter's bullet that strayed and struck the horse, but Rocky Creech believes the shot came from the road.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Johnston County Sheriff's Department at 919-989-5000.
