The longtime leader of the Sharpsburg Police Department was murdered just two months ago, but it will take a lot longer before people are completely over his death.

Friends, family members and Sharpsburg neighbors met Thursday night to remember Chief Wayne Hathaway.

The town of Sharpsburg continues to mourn the loss of fallen police chief Wayne Hathaway. On July 17th, Hathaway answered a domestic call involving Gloria and Abner Nicholson. Investigators say Abner Nicholson pulled out a gun and shot his wife, then shot Hathaway.

Now, two months later, friends and family came together at Sharpsburg's First Baptist Church to pay tribute to their fallen hero with a candlelight vigil.

The vigil was part of the town's attempt to bring closure to the tragedy. Even if they find that closure, they said the life and memories of Hathaway will forever burn in their hearts.

About 60 people attended Thursday night's ceremony. They plan to come together once a year to remember Hathaway.
