Not All Flooded Cars a Total Loss

When the rain comes down hard and fast, it will take anything in its path. And while Thursday's flood waters rose and receded quickly, it didn't take long for the damage to pile up.

One flooded car ended up at Detail Express, where workers could clean-up the interior. Thursday, shop owner Troy Hamlin let the car dry out so he could shampoo the car Friday.

If you're lucky, your car needs nothing more than a little lather and elbow grease to bring in back to life.

But sometimes water can cause more than cosmetic damage. A good soaking can make it bad under the hood, especially if the car's computer board gets wet. According to William Morgan of Tao Auto, the board operates about 85% of the vehicle-- everything from the engine function to the transmission and electrical system.

Morgan is quick to add, some flooded-out cars can be fixed. "If a car has been severely flooded and it dries out properly, you can fix it."
