All parents dream of their children growing up free of substance abuse and one local group is working to make that happen.

The Substance Abuse Free Families and Environments Coalition sponsored a two-day event for local teens. The kids learned not only how to avoid drugs, but how to get their peers to stay clean as well.

Anthony Harris of the SAFE Youth Coalition says staying involved is key. That's important because in today's society juveniles face a lot of problems. Harris believes that's because they don't have any activities to get involved in. Youth need to be a part of something and to feel they are worthwhile.

More than a hundred local teens attended the program.
