Teen Faces Murder Charge For Eggleston's Death

The week long search for 16-year-old Chris Eggleston ended Saturday when officials found his body. Now, one of his classmates, 17-year old-Matthew Myers, has been charged in connection with Eggleston's death.

Myers was in court Monday morning, charged with kidnapping and murder.

Eggleston had been missing for five days when his body was found in the woods behind Westover High School. While the tragedy is being discussed at length by family and friends, police are keeping mum on details of the crime.

Monday night, WRAL-TV5 News learned that Eggleston was tied up with rope when he was found Saturday morning. WRAL also learned that Myers moved to Fayetteville two years ago to live with his grandparents after his father died in Florida.

Police also dispelled rumors that Eggleston's body was mutilated. They also said that there was no credible evidence that the murder was gang-related. Captain Bruce Chandler of the Fayetteville Police Department said that his men are investigating each rumor as they look for leads in the case.

Debbie Soto lives in the area. She says this has made parents nervous about their children's safety.

Eggleston's parents made a statement to the press Monday afternoon thanking their friends and others in the community and at nearby military bases for their help in the search for Chris, and to thank the media for respecting their privacy.

The Egglestons asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Chris' name to the Chris Eggleston Missing Children Fund at the Fort Bragg Credit Union.
