With warmer weather on the way, area swimming pools will soon be opening. Most try to open for Memorial Day weekend, but the only outdoor public pool in Fayetteville is still under construction, and won't be ready for a while longer.

Many are asking when the Seabrook Park pool will open. The opening had been scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, but it now looks like it could be early July before construction is done. There was a pool in the park before, but once construction got underway to rebuild it, a string of delays have put pressure on workers. Fayetteville's General Recreation Supervisor David Jackson says they had really hoped the pool would open sooner.

When the pool is complete, it will have a play area just for children, a swimming area for adults, and bath-houses for everyone. Seabrook Recreation Supervisor Les Thorne says there will be many new people coming to the pool this year.

Fayetteville has spent $900,000 to renovate the Seabrook pool, but officials say they were spending $20,000 each year for upkeep on the old pool.

There's more bad news for area children. For the first month of summer break, the YMCA pool will also be under construction. The Y is trying to arrange for some of its summer swimming courses to be moved into area apartment complex pools.

Seabrook is also trying arrange a sharing deal with Fayetteville State University's pool.
