Crabtree Valley Mall Sits Amid Snarled Traffic

Glenwood Avenue near Crabtree Valley Mall has been under construction for quite a while and drivers are getting pretty steamed about being stuck amongst the orange and white barrels there.

The Department of Transportation is rehabilitating two bridges that cross Crabtree Creek. They've been working with one lane of each bridge closed at a time. As they complete one lane, they close down another and work on it. In addition to creating a bottleneck as traffic merges, that has caused some confusion as drivers try to get used to a traffic pattern that constantly changes.

The result is that, especially during rush driving times, Glenwood Avenue becomes a parking lot at times. Scott Davis drives that stretch of road every day. He says something has got to change.

For businesses stuck in the middle of the construction zone, it has been a long three months. Ralph Vanaken, a mechanic at a gas station there, says his business has been seriously affected.

Thursday, DOT engineers said the project should be finished by the first week in June if everything goes as planned. That places the project ahead of schedule.
