It was a deadly weekend on North Carolina roads. Troopers say the death toll was more appropriate for a holiday weekend. A total of 18 people died on state highways, and one of those was involved in an accident at a Cary intersection known for its danger.

Three people were injured in the accident and 72-year-old Jillian Shurbert of Cary was killed.

Area residents are concerned about their safety, and are calling for action. They say they've seen too many accidents at the intersection of Cary Parkway and Bond Lake Drive.

Cary resident Antonio Gutierrez lives near the intersection and has a daughter who will begin driving soon.

The State Department of Transportation has received a request to install a traffic light at that intersection.
