A fire broke out late Monday morning at Strickland Industries on Highway 581 near Spring Hope.

The company is in the business of breaking up wooden pallets for use as fuel. The fire was still burning at noon and fire departments from all over Nash County were on the scene to assist in some capacity.

Forestry service crews were cutting fire lines to prevent the blaze from spreading. It took several hours for firefighters to get the blaze under control.

No buildings were damaged, but seven acres of wooded company property burned.

There is still no word on how the fire was started.
