Warning Issued for UNC-CH Campus
Police say students and staff need to stay on alert following two attacks on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill.
Police say a little after 8 p.m. last night, a doctor was locking her office door at the Burnett-Womack building near UNC Hospitals when she was approached from behind by a man. She screamed and the man fled.
Just a few minutes later, a student was grabbed near the School of Nursing by a man matching the description of the first suspect.
UNC police Lt. Angela Carmen says the man tried to sexually assault the student, but she got away.
Neither woman was seriously injured, but students are concerned. Amy Poindexter says there are many activities scheduled at night and the thought of being attacked is frightening.
Investigators believe the same person is responsible for both attacks. He is described as a black male, between 5'10" and 6'2" tall. He may be in his early to mid-30s. He has a medium complexion, slim build and short hair. The suspect was last seen wearing dark clothing.
UNC Police are posting flyers across campus to warn students, and to try to get answers. They offer several suggestions to those who must be out on campus at night.
