Convenience Store Clerk Shot in Durham

Police rushed to a Durham convenience store after an apparent armed robbery attempt ended with a store clerk shot. The shooting occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. At 11 p.m., investigators and emergency vehicles were still at the Stop One convenience mart on Holloway Street.

Police say someone entered the store and fired one shot which struck the clerk in the head. He was sent to Duke Medical Center Hospital. As of 11 p.m. he was still alive, but his condition was unknown.

There were several other customers inside the store at the time of the shooting along with at least one other clerk. One witness was a relative of the wounded man. He accompanied police downtown to give a statement.

Police told WRAL'sMark Roberts they are not sure if the shooting was part of a robbery attempt or the result of some other dispute.
